It is 10:14 pm GST on January 3rd (so for those of you back home, it’s 1:14 pm EST your time). I feel greasy and I’m pretty sure I smell at this point. We have been traveling for 31 hours. We’re sitting around in the Dubai airport, using our luggage as tables to play cards on. I talked to my mom when I landed and she asked me what it was like. To be honest? It’s like the Cleveland-Hopkins airport, but the signs have Arabic on them.
Since my last update we arrived in Chicago and took a subway to the airport. I have never been in a subway so this was actually pretty neat. I already experienced something new without even leaving the country. The international wing of O’Hare was stupid extravagant. High-end stores, spas, and executive lounges lined the walkways.
The Emirates plane was also the most extravagant plane I have ever been on. The amenities were endless. They provided us with sleep masks, toothbrushes, socks, pillows, and blankets. We all had our own touch-screen televisions with a detachable remote control and phone to call other seats. There were newer movies, podcasts, television series, and multiplayer games. I played trivia with Elyse, watched Bad Moms, and a few episodes of X-Files. The rest of the time I pretty much slept. The plane was not bad at all. The flight went by very fast.
When the drink cart came around, Elyse (22) and myself (20) ordered a white wine and a Heineken, respectively. The steward looked at us like we were crazy.
“Are you sure you’re over 18? How old are you? I don’t want to get in trouble. Are you SURE?”
After we got our drinks the woman that we were sitting next to told us that she also thought we were under the age of 18. Thanks for the good genes, mom! It’s both a blessing and a curse.
After this bus gets here to take us to Abu Dhabi, I GET TO SLEEP IN A BED! I’m so excited!
